The coastal geomorphology

The S'Illot waterfront is of special interest because the landscape is linked to the shape and structure of the rocky material.

Towards the south coast cliffs occur which open in to coves like Cala Lorlanda or Calo d'en Rafelino, while to the north open beaches like S'Illot or Sa Coma can be seen.

The rocky calcarenite coastline was formed of tabular material dating from about (X) million years ago and consists mainly of remains of ancient (Y) formations, mangrove and lagoon enviroments as seen in the fossils of the rocks.
(X and Y are the questions to answer - you will find the answers on the info sign near the location!)

The erosive action of water has given rise to the characteristic karst forms of the Levant littoral: from the lapiaz that forms cracks and sharp outlines on the rocks, to the open sea caves and spectacular drops, such are the peculiarities of ES BUFADOR.

There are caves below ground level of which the Drach and Harms in Porto Christo are very notable examples.

ES BUFADOR is connected with the sea through a crack which causes a funnel effect when there is a swell.

The swell pusches the air that is compressed and rises intermittently accompanied by splashing.

It is very spectacular during storms (but do not get to close - because it is dangerous!)

A nivel subterrraneo encontramos cuevas.
