Small herds of cattle roamed at will before being rounded up and driven to the west coast to be sold and shipped to Cuba. Many Cattlemen were paid with Gold Spanish Doubloons for their sweat and blood.
The term "Cracker" was originally for the sound the Cowboy's whips made as they drove the cows through the range toward their final destination.
