Geocache Description:

Another cache part of the Setagaya temple series by cachekuni.com

One of the interesting features of this location is the Nakayashiki-mon. The gate belonged to the Hachizuka family's Awanotokushima clan and was relocated to the temple to serve as the 'sanmon' (Main Gate) during the Edo period.

The style of the gate was imposed by the Edo government. The structure and style indicate the feudal lord's class (decided upon by wealth). This gate was constructed after the government declared the Hachizuka family could support 250,000 people (or 250,000 'koku'). It is one of the few remaining Bukeyashiki-mon in Tokyo.
