Cache hidden close to the Trans Pennine Trail, on the site of the former Childwall station.
Container is a camoflaged tube containing a log and a pencil. Parking available nearby in Well Lane. Access to the TPT directly from there.
Childwall Station opened on December 1st 1879. It was situated on the Cheshire Lines Committee's North Liverpool Extension Line. This connected its main Liverpool to Manchester line, to the Huskisson docks in north Liverpool. The line was mainly used by goods trains, but passenger services also used it. Services went north to Aintree Central and Southport as well as to Huskisson Docks. This passenger service was cut back to Walton in 1885 and ceased altogether in 1918.
To the south trains served destinations to Liverpool and Manchester.
The line running through Childwall was allways very busy on Grand national day, as express trains from all over the country used it to access Aintree Central.
Childwall Staion was too far from the village of Childwall in a sparsley populated rural area. As a result it closed to passengers in 1931 and to goods traffic in 1943. Ironically within 25 years the area was a built up suburb of Liverpool.
Regular passenger services continued to pass through the staion until 1960 and by 1975 this once busy line was reduced to a single track for its entire length. Goods services finished in 1975 and the line was lifted in April 1979.
Today the route is part of the Nationl Cycleway Network Route 62, which is the Trans Pennine Trail
