An ammo can hidden in Mohansic County Park.
Mohansic County park includes the Mohansic golf course and a large area of undeveloped land adjacent to the golf course. We have wondered for some time what was out there -- the answer is a beautiful mixed forest with a highly varied topography. The woods can be accessed from the golf course i-- subject to access restrictions, but there is also an old trail/road in from Hunterboork Rd with a place to pull off and park.
There are no maintained trails in the park, but there are several old roads/trails that are kept clear by use. If you come in from Hunterbrook Rd, follow the old road up until it intersects with an underground cable right of way, turn right along the right of way and continue up over the hill and down. After you cross the stream at the very bottom of the hill, look for a trail on the left. If you come in from the golf course follow the overgrown road down to an intersection with the trail and turn left along the trail. Or you can bushwhack in through the quite open forest from several places along the golf course.
Bac highly recommends the hike in from Hunterbrook Rd. -- it is not a short hike and there is some up and down, but you will get to see the variety of topography that the park offers.
The cache is a classic ammo can hidden in a clear (to geocachers) fashion.
