[PT] A Igreja Matriz de Santa Bárbara de Nexe, em Santa Bárbara
de Nexe, Portugal, é uma das maiores e mais importantes igrejas no
Algarve rural. Iniciou-se no século XIV, no lugar de uma antiga
ermida já existente, onde eram relatados milagres e era local de
romagens regionais. Foi alvo de importantes intervenções nos
séculos XVII e XVIII. É um edifício de três naves de cinco tramos,
com arcos ogivais suportados por colunas. Um arco triunfal
exuberantemente decorado com ramos e troncos, em puro estilo
manuelino, separa a nave central da capela-mor, cuja cobertura é
decorada por uma abóbada estrelada, de cinco chaves, ligadas por
combados em forma de corda. A nave virada a norte possui três
capelas, possuidoras de pinturas do século XVI, retábulos de talha
barroca e rocaille. Também se evidenciam vários revestimentos de
azulejos de padronagem e um painel de azulejos figurativos que
encima o arco triunfal. A igreja encontra-se em vias de
classificação.
[EN] The Church of Santa Barbara de Nexe, in Santa Barbara de
Nexe, Portugal, is one of the largest and most important churches
in the Algarve countryside. It started the XIV century in place of
the existing old chapel, where reportedly "miracles" occured and it
was also the place of inumerous regional religious festivals. The
building was subject to major interventions in the XVII and XVIII
centuries. It is a building of three chambers and five
“tramos” (don't know the precise translation), with
ogival arches supported by columns. An triumphal arch exuberantly
decorated with branches and trunks, in pure Manueline style,
separates the central chamber of the presbytery, whose cover is
adorned by a starry, five key dome connected by combos in the form
of a string. The chamber turned to the north has three chapels,
holding various paintings of the sixteenth century and carved
altarpieces of Baroque and Rocaille style. It also displays several
ceramic tile coatings and a tile panel that figures above the
triumphal arch. The church is in the process of classification.
