Geocache Description:

HERE IT IS! A cache at the legendary “Giant Jackrabbit”. With permission from the owner. Stop and sign the log and then if you want to… take a picture of you, your kids, your goat, or whatever and whomever you wish… Just include your GPSr. Oh, and don’t forget to post it.

The cache is very close to the “Giant Jackrabbit” just don’t get “ICED” in your search. You are looking for a cammoed container that should be perfect for those travel bugs and geocoins you want to move along. If you have any problems finding the cache just ask the wonderful owners of this Historic Route 66 Landmark Antonio “Tony” or Cindy for it.

While driving across the Arizona desert and in between Historic Route 66 and Interstate 40, Family TRAK(d) kept seeing these signs with a giant jackrabbit silhouette. We passed dinosaurs, giant arrows sticking out of the ground, tee pees, rusty ol’cars abandoned along the side of the road. We even dined on road kill and stood on a famous corner to take it easy, but these signs kept taunting us. We knew our trip along Historic Route 66 wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the giant jackrabbit’s home. So finally when the exit came for the “Giant Jackrabbit” we had to stop… even though no geocache was anywhere nearby.

The boys crawled all around this giant leporids and we took tons of pictures. These pictures were some of the cutest pictures taken of the lil’ men during our trip.

Then the light bulb went off in my head. This spot was in desperate need of a geocache and I knew just what to do. We went inside and talked with the owners who were some of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. After explaining Geocaching to them and what we wanted to do they were in full support and gave their blessings to add one of our treasures here. They have allowed us to place this cache on their property so please respect it in your search.

This roadside attraction and it’s iconic giant jackrabbit is much beloved by Route 66 fans and started its life alongside Route 66 back in 1949, when the postwar boom years were in full swing and America, after years of austerity, was on the move again.

The roadside attraction post hails from Route 66's glory days, and is currently in operation. With a large plastic jackrabbit that can be mounted (for pictures with your GPSr), the facility is considered a major Route 66 attraction by enthusiasts. It was famous for numerous billboards up and down Route 66 (and in some other locations) which had nothing but the silhouette of a jackrabbit on it. In front of the location was another such billboard with "HERE IT IS" written underneath it.

So pull over, like so many thousands of others have before you, stretch your legs, pick up or drop off a travel bug and experience the Jackrabbit mystique. Just don’t forget to take a picture of you and the “Giant Jackrabbit”… with your GPSr of course.

Again, I would like to thank Tony and Cindy the Owners of the “Giant Jackrabbit” for being my sponsors of this Historic Landmark Cache.

Congrats to PATS4X4 for the FTF!

As always, enjoy.
