Grey Wolf grew
up very near this park. I can see the house from GZ when looking
north.
When Mounds View put in it's public water system, they
installed a drinking fountain about where the basketball hoop is
now. For that entire summer, whenever we were thirsty, we would hop
on our bikes and get in line for a drink. A water fountain in the
park was quite a novelty.
If you look to the south, you will see the end of a drainage
pipe that's quite close to the surface. We would crawl in that pipe
and pop out the opening on the north side of Lambert St. and into
the 'ditch'. You can't see that area today, as the property owner
to the north has fenced that spot in.
Things sure have changed: The hockey rink spot used to be a
small pleasure rink. The old warming house was a wooden building to
the south about where the playground is now. The ballfield was just
paths in the sand to the bases with no backstop and there was a
swing set about where the parking lot is.
I wonder whatever happened to that old drinking
fountain?
Beware of muggles.
Have fun,
Be safe, and BYOP.
