Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of caches sponsored by Boy Scout Leaders in Central New Jersey Council BSA that will feature Eagle projects.

Eagle is the highest rank that a boy can earn in scouts. He has to complete at least 21 merit badges (12 specific required ones and 9 others of his choosing). He also has to hold a position of leadership in the troop for at least 6 months, plus plan and carry out a service project that benefits either a religious or community organization. Many of these projects exceed 100 man-hours to complete. The scout has to fund-raise to pay for this also. This was originally part of a series that I had put out in conjunction with 11 other caches making it the Cache to Eagle series for our council. Unfortunately, our council folded and many in the series weren't able to be maintained. So this one stays because I am proud of these eagle projects and these beautiful gardens. This cache is located in Rutgers Gardens, New Brunswick, Middlesex County. There are many Eagle projects in the garden, but I am going to feature 3 of them. The first is a newly constructed Herb Garden just about in the middle of the gardens. In the area of this is where you will find the cache container. John from Troop 138 learned how to mix cement and lay stone before starting his project. It took around 140 hours to make this. If you go from this cache towards an already existing cache GC1EGCT “Bam! Boo!”, you will travel into the bamboo forest and come upon a bridge across the creek. This bridge was built by Andy of Troop 138 as his Eagle project. It took over 200 hours of work . He originally was replacing the small bridge down stream that had been damaged in a storm. As the project progressed, it was realized that the length of the bridge was too long without a support in the middle and that would have required a special permit. So the head of the gardens approved the moving of the bridge and actually shortening it. This is where the third project comes in. Kevin of Troop 193 built a new trail from the old entrance into the woods from the small parking area around to have the trail meet up with the new location of the bridge. The old path had to be blocked to keep people from having to walk in the creek. The trail took 141 hours to complete. You are looking for a regular lock-n-lock container. In it you will not only find the log book and trade items but also a stamp pad and two stamps. True letterboxing encourages you to create your own stamp, which I have done, I carved a letter R to honor Rutgers. (I had to remove the R, since it is moldy) I also included a purchased stamp of an eagle. After all this is part of the Cache to Eagle Series.
