The above coordinates are for the starting point, not the final cache location.
The container here has been lost a couple of times. I replaced the container with a magnetic NANO to try to make it a little bit more muggle proof. If you are under 6' tall you may need a little help retrieving it. It is high on a sign post.
The blocks from Peach St. west to Poplar St. along West Sixth St. in Erie, PA was once known as “Millionaires Row” in the late 1800’s. Erie’s upper class lived along here in a variety of Victorian style mansions. Most of these still exist, but most of them are no longer single family dwellings. Many of them have been converted into apartments or office buildings. Some have been restored, and are in excellent conditions. Others are not in as good condition, however, there has been an extensive restoration effort along these blocks recently. Most of the buildings have now been restored and are in great condition. At least one has been torn down and replaced with an office building which you might notice as you work through this cache.
This cache focuses on one of the blocks along this route. You will have to gather information as you walk through the area in order to determine the coordinates for the final cache location. Take your time and enjoy the buildings. At some of your stops you will see historical signs giving a little information about the building you are at. Also, the museum and planetarium are nice places to visit.
You will walk a total of about 1/4 mile. Begin at the NW corner of West Sixth St. and Myrtle St. Proceed west and gather the information you need.
The final cache is located at N42 07.ABC, W080 05.DEF
All clues refer to the front façade of the houses ONLY, and not anything on the other sides. There is no need to go onto the properties to gather the information.
328-330: This is one building with 2 entrances and 2 house numbers. Count the total number of windows along the bottom of the building. A = this number.
338: Looking at the front of the house, what is the total number of windows across the second floor? This number = B.
356: This is one of the best restored examples of what these houses were like in the late 1800’s. The house is now the home to a museum, and the carriage house in the back is now the Erie planetarium. Look at the front entry door. Count the number of inset wooden panels on this front door. This number = C.
For checking, add A, B, and C. This sum should be 12.
345: Look at the front of the house. Count the total number of windows on the top floor plus the total number of windows next to the front door. This number = D.
323: Look at the front of this building. To your right you will see a black metal fence in front of the Black Walnut Garden. How many sections of black and gold fencing are there across the front. (The sections are separated by black vertical pieces that are about 4" wide). Do not count the gates. This number = E.
305: Look at the sign on the corner of the lot. How many companies are listed on this sign? This number = F.
For checking, add D, E, and F. This sum should be 12.
The final cache is a simple nano. When you reach the final location you will be right next to another excellent example of one of the restored mansions.
Watch out for muggles since this is a very high muggle area.
Please replace the cache exactly as you find it.
