Geocache Description:

Located at Lake Red Rock near Pella and Knoxville Iowa

Location: Lake Red Rock
When: Saturday, September 18th, 10:00am - 6:00pm

Lake Red Rock, local geocachers and the Red Rock Lake Association are working together to have an exceptional event. We’ve brought together 10 geocaching teams to hide caches especially for this event. Each team was asked to try to hide at least 10 caches within the area they were assigned, with the goal of most, if not all of them, being permanent caches. With the vast amount of area this shouldn’t be a hard to do.

Geocachers need to sign-in at the Red Rock Visitor Center on the south end of the dam. We will have information available for you to download (bring your cords or you may be loading manually) and maps of the lake. The Visitors Center will be open at 9:30am and closes at 6:00pm on that Saturday. All temporary caches will be available for the whole weekend. Information about event caches will only be available for download on that Saturday. Permanent caches will be published sometime that weekend.

SuperGoober will be offering a Geocaching 101 class at 10:00am and a Geocaching 201 class at noon. All beginner and experienced cachers are welcome to attend either or both classes. We will have basic GPSrs available for beginners to use.

Lake Red Rock is located near Pella and Knoxville Iowa. The lake has over 15,000 surface acres of water at normal conservation pool. The maximum floor control pool is 780 feet above sea level, over 33 miles long, and covers 65,500 acres. Lake Red Rock has land extending from just below the dam all the way back to near Carlisle. The lake also has over 10 miles of paved bike/walking trails with several more miles of earthen/grass trails within each of the different parks. We will be hiding caches within the local county parks also.

The Pella and Knoxville areas have numerous food, drink and lodging establishments to choose from.

We will post more information as it becomes available.
