Blue Mountain-
Rich in history dating back to the 1800's, Blue Mountain had Mosby
Rangers hiding out on the mountain during the Civil War; escaped
slaves found the mountain a place of safety before the Civil War;
the battle of Cedar Creek, one of the most decisive of the Civil
War, was fought in the Valley just below Blue Mountain and could be
viewed from a high point on the mountain. John Marshall, the first
chief justice of the U.S., lived in this area as well.
Drive a little further up Freezeland Rd (1.5-2 miles) to the Upper
Ted Lake trailhead and past that you'll find the trailhead for the
Trillium Trail located in G. Richard Thompson wildlife management
area for a great walk. In the spring the Trilliums, Yellow Ladies
Slippers, and Spring Beauties are a beautiful site, indeed. Keep an
eye out for local foxes, bears, and perhaps, even a bobcat!
Visiting in the fall will reward you with beautiful colors
throughout the woods.
Congratulations to StephenMWalls for the FTF!
