Le site de Saint Martin de Pris se situe dans le vallon du
Boundoulaou à Creissels.
Il a été fouillé en 1981 – 1982 par le Groupe
d’Archéologie de la M.J.C. de Millau, sous la direction
d’Alain Vernhet.
Il se compose de deux parties.
L'église
Bâtie aux Xème et XIème siècles, elle a été prolongée à
l’ouest par un narthex aux XIIè- XIVè s.
Elle fut abandonnée au cours du XVè s (vers 1421 semble-t-il) faute
d'habitants. Ses murs ont été rasés et le chœur a été emporté
par le ruisseau du Boundoulaou.
Le cimetière
Autour de l’église, et sous le narthex, une soixantaine de
tombes ont été trouvées et fouillées.
Certaines sont de simples caissons de pierres plates, mais on y
voit aussi de très beaux sarcophages en grès ou en tuf. Toutes sont
datables entre le Xè et le XVè s.
Historique :
En 1249, Raymond VII, le dernier Comte de Toulouse, accompagnant le
Roi de France, Louis IX, jusqu’à Aigues Mortes, passa par
Millau où il tomba malade. On décida de reconduire le Comte
jusqu’à Toulouse, mais peu après son départ de Millau,
il dut s’arrêter à Pris où, dans l’église, il rédigea
son testament. Les plus éminents seigneurs et évêques de ses états
vinrent dans cette petite église de Pris pour authentifier son
testament. Il faut rappeler que le Comte, issu de la famille des
Plantagenets, n’avait qu’une fille, mariée à Alphonse
de Poitiers, le frère du Roi de France. C’est donc par ce
testament, rédigé à St Martin de Pris, que la France allait
s’agrandir des plus belles terres de tout le Midi, jalousées
par la famille royale d’Angleterre.
Raymond VII fut ramené à Millau, où il mourut peu après, en
septembre 1249. Il fut ensuite transporté à Toulouse, puis enterré
à l’Abbaye de Fontevrault, dans le tombeau des
Plantagenets.

Saint Martin of Pris's site is situated in the valley of
Boundoulaou to Creissels.
It was searched in 1981 - 1982 by the Group of Archaeology of the
M.J.C. of Millau, supervised by Alain Vernhet.
Consists of two parts.
The church
Built in the Xth and XIth centuries, it was prolonged on the West
by a narthex in the XIIè-XIVè s.
Was abandoned during the XVè (by 1421 it seems) for lack of
inhabitants. His walls were shaved and the chorus was taken by the
brook of Boundoulaou.
The cemetery
Around the church, and under the narthex, about sixty graves were
found and searched.
Some are simple boxes of flat stones, but we see also very
beautiful sarcophaguses in stoneware or in tuff there. All are
datable between Xè and XVè s.
History :
In 1249, Raymond VII, the last Count of Toulouse, accompanying King
of France, Louis IX, until Aigues Mortes, passed by Millau where he

its departure of Millau,
he had to stop in "Pris" where, in the church, he drafted his will.
The most eminent Lords and the bishops of her states came in this
small church of "Pris" to authenticate its will. It is necessary to
call back that the Count, stemming from the family of Plantagenets,
had only a girl, married to Alphonse of Poitiers, the brother of
King of France. It is thus by this will, drafted to St Martin of
Pris, that France was going to get bigger of the most beautiful
lands of all Southof France, been jealous by the royal family
of England.
Raymond VII was returned to Millau, where he died a bit further, in
September, 1249. He was then transported in Toulouse, then buried
in the Abbey of Fontevrault, in the grave of Plantagenets.
