Geocache Description:

Steaming by!

Wooo Woooooooo!
the train is coming!

As I was placing the cache, I thought about what it must have been like for the people who built the original railway so many years ago and how amazing it would have been to see a steam powered locomotive pulling a string of cars thundering through the snow covered landscape. An era gone by...

Hopefully this cache can capture some of the history of the area. We spent all week working on customizing a container that would feel at home. We hope you enjoy!

The cache is about 20' - 25' off the trail to the south. When you get to the "wall" there is no need to go further. Of course the GPSr was bouncing all around and didn't want to give me good accuracy. As I approached GZ, the readings looked good, but then stopping near GZ they just start drifting all around.

10 Years!

Congratulations to Allenite, doubleagents, Berrycrew, and KinderKen on their FTF! Sounds like a fun party!

Update: July 22nd 2011. 5 or 6 of the caches along the Iron Horse Trail were vandalized / stolen, including this one and the A.P.E. Cache. Thanks to Hypno for doing a temp replacement. If the cache isn't bothered again, we will build another custom container and restore this one to its original glory.

The Cache

Update:February 19th 2011. We just received our approved geocache placement permit from the state! Cache is now enabled, ready to go!!

Update: As of July 8th 2010, this cache has been disable by GroundSpeak because a review of state park lands revealed that the cache is actually in a State Park (Iron Horse State Park).

This being the case, we (the cache owners) need to get a permit for it to be here. We are working on getting the permit, but not making a ton of progress. We are committed to getting it permitted so that it can be re-enabled again as soon as possible. For now, we have added the State Park verbiage that will be part of the acceptance of this cache being in a state park.
