Geocache Description:

Magomejuku was one of 69 way stations placed along the old Nakasendo route between Tokyo (then called Edo) and Kyoto by the shogun Tokugawa who ruled Japan four hundreds years ago.

While the Tokaido route was mostly going along the Pacific Ocean shore line, the Nakasendo route was going through mountains and valleys in the midway of Japan. Because the Tokaido route had major obstacles of crossing wide rivers such as O'igawa and Kisogawa rivers by shaky ferry rides then, the Nakasendo route was often preferred to take as an alternative regardless of its mountainous routing.

Magomejuku was the 43rd way station located 333km away from Tokyo to have offered lodging and other travel services.

Now, Magomejuku has been beautifully restored to preserve its old historic taste. Please enjoy and discover old Japan.
