John Hancock, as the president
of the Congress, was the first person to sign the Declaration of
Independence. Legend has it that he made his signature larger than
normal and put it right in the middle so as to make it more easily
readable by King George without his glasses.
Regardless if that story is
true his signature was so obvious when looking at the document that
his name became synonymous with the word "signature". I'm sure at
one time or another you've been asked to "put your John
Hancock here..."
Check out a picture of the
Declaration and see how much his signature stands out. While you're
at it check out some of the other signatures and solve this simple
puzzle.
