Come and join us for the Seek the Peaks Geocaching Weekend at Sun
Peaks. Everyone is welcome from novice to the advanced. There is no
better way to experience the beautiful alpine landscape and
wildlife first hand than while searching for hidden treasures using
your Global Positioning System receiver (GPS) to navigate you. Be
the first to find and collect prizes from Helly Hansen and enter to
win the grand prize draw on Sunday.
The learn to Geocache Course is a separate feature. You can
participate in the geocaching Saturday afternoon and Sunday for
free 9although you will need a lift pass for Sunday.
LEARN TO GEOCACHE
Saturday, July 24, 9:30am
Have you always been interested in geocaching but never really knew
how to get started? Discover Sun Peaks Adventures will give you a
fun and informative introduction to the popular sport of
geocaching. Learn how to use a GPS, and how to follow the GPS
coordinates to find the hidden treasures. The course includes the
use of a geocaching pack containing a GPS unit, a map, pencil, and
pad plus an instruction and information booklet. Registered
participants are to meet at the Adventure Centre at 9:30am on
Saturday, July 24, for the geocaching course. Anyone interested in
this course should contact Sun Peaks directly at 250-578-5542 or by
clicking on the link provided.
SEEK THE PEAKS - VALLEY CACHES
Saturday, July 24, 1:00pm
Complimentary to enter.
Geocachers will meet at the Adventure Center at 1:00pm where they
will receive a copy of the lower valley hiking trails along with
the GPS coordinates. Over 15 caches will be hidden among the Nordic
and Snowshoeing trails. Sign the log books within the caches and
collect the ballots for a chance to win great prizes from Kelly
Hansen at the wrap-up BBQ on Sunday. Participants must have their
own GPS unit, or rent one from the Adventure Centre.
SEEK THE PEAKS - ALPINE CACHES
Sunday, July 25, 10:00am
Complimentary to enter, but a lift ticket is required.
Geocachers will meet at the bottom of the Sunburst Chairlift at
10:00am where the GPS coordinates will be released. Over 30 caches
will be hidden on the Sun Peaks alpine hiking trails. Within the
caches will be small prizes and ballots for draw prizes at the end
of the day. To wrap up the geocaching weekend, there will a BBQ at
Masa's Bar + Grill where the draw prizes from Helly Hansen will be
awarded along with the award for the competitor who is the first to
find the most caches. Participants must have their own GPS unit, or
rent one from the Adventure Centre.
Lift Ticket Required
All event participants are required to have a valid hiking lift
ticket. Discounted hiking lift tickets will be offered to all
participants on Sunday, July 25. Purchase your discounted lift
ticket by presenting your GPS unit at Guest Services located in the
Village Day Lodge. For families or spouses sharing a GPS unit there
is a maximum of two adults and two dependents 18 years of age and
under per GPS unit.
