Die Pfarrkirche Hilgerath steht allein hoch oben auf einem Berg in der Gemarkung Neichen. Der Turm stammt nach seiner Bauart ca. aus der Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts, das Hauptschiff besteht seit 1804 in der heutigen Form. 1950 wurde die Kirche durch zwei Seitenschiffe erweitert. Sie ist das Zentrum der Pfarrei Beinhausen, zu der auch noch die Dörfer Boxberg, Neichen, Kradenbach, Nerdlen, Sarmersbach und Gefell gehören. Dieses Gebiet wird landläufig auch »Struth« genannt.
1975 entwendeten Einbrecher das Gnadenbild der »Beweinung Christi« aus der Kirche. 1995 tauchte es in Biberach wieder auf und konnte zurückgeholt werden. Aus Dankbarkeit begehen die Struther Katholiken seitdem jährlich eine Sternwallfahrt nach Hilgerath, jeweils am Sonntag nach Kreuzerhöhung.
Der Weg verläuft am Rande eines kleinen Windparks. Im Winter kann Gefahr durch von den Rotoren abfallendes Eis bestehen. Geländegängige Kinderwagen kommen durch, allerdings mag es nötig sein, nach Station 4 dem Weg nach rechts zu folgen.

The Hilgerath parish church stands high on a hill in the district of Neichen. According to the style of its construction, the steeple was built in the 15th century; the nave has had its current shape since 1804. Two aisles were added in 1950. It serves the parish of Beinhausen, which also includes the villages of Boxberg, Neichen, Kradenbach, Nerdlen, Sarmersbach, and Gefell. This area is locally known as “Struth”.
In 1975, burglars stole the “Lamentation of Christ”. The image was found again in Biberach in 1995, and was returned to Hilgerath. To give thanks, the Struth catholics have since made an annual pilgrimage to Hilgerath (on the Sunday following the Feast of the Cross).
The trail runs alongside a small wind farm. In winter, there may be danger from ice falling from the wind turbines. All-terrain strollers will get by, except that between stages 4 and 5 you may need to turn right rather than enter the forest.
