Geocache Description:

Sunilan risteys on yksi Limingan historiallisista paikoista.

Alueen nimi tulee Sunilan talosta, jonka 1700-luvulla rakennettu päärakennus on tienvieressä. Sunila toimi pitkään kestikievarina, jossa on vieraillut Carl von Linné (1732), Ruotsin kuninkaat Adolf Fredrik (1752) ja Kustaa IV Adolf (1802) sekä Venäjän keisari Aleksanteri I (1819).

Intersection of Sunila is one of historic places in Liminka. The intersection was the center of the Liminka already in the middle age. In this place two important roads diverged, route from Oulu to Raahe and along riverside to upstream road to Ylivieska know as Rantatie (bankroad). First church of Liminka was in this area in 15th century. This area was important summer market place until last wars. Inhabitants of Liminka are calling Summer market “Narikka”.

Area has got its name from the estate of Sunila. You can see the red mansion along the road. It has been built in 18th century. Sunila served a long time as a inn, where VIPs has been visited. Most well-known persons has been founder of modern scheme of binomial nomenclature Carl von Linné (1732), Swedish kings Adolf Frederick (1752) and Gustav IV Adolf (1802) and Emperor of Russia Alexander I (Alexander the Blessed) (1819).
