A micro-cache hidden along a nicely preserved Bailey Bridge crossing the Canaan River in southeastern New Brunswick, Canada. Accessible by car, foot or canoe.
The 7th in a series by the Steeves Memorial Scouts. We try to place a cache every time we go on a camp or outing.
On a very rainy June afternoon, we paddled the Canaan River in a flotilla of canoes. A few hours into our trip, we came across this great Bailey Bridge crossing the river. Bailey bridges were invented during the Second World War as a means for army units to quickly erect bridges over rivers and canals. The truss bridge components are prefabricated and can be transported to the site on the back of a truck. In the modern era, Bailey bridges are used to replace washed-out bridges after floods; while intended to be temporary, many have stood the test of time.
While we accessed the cache site by canoe, you can easily reach it by car or on foot.
