This event has been put together to celebrate the 10th of
October 2010 (10/10/10). It will start at 10am, and coincidentally
is in the 10th year of Geocaching!
WHERE: The published
coordinates
WHEN: From 10am, 10th October
2010 (don't be late)
WHAT: Fun and games themed
around the number 10
BRING: BYO food/drink/etc, and
bring your GPS with charged up batteries!
It will start at 10AM in the Auckland Domain. Unless you have a
wedding to attend on this day (not all that unlikely as a lot of
people choose to get married on dates like this), add this one to
your calendar now!
The location might be subject to some changes (depending on
factors such as weather conditions) but we will keep this page
updated with all the details.
We plan to have 10 prizes awarded at the event and there will be
a range of games and activities put in place (all related to the
number 10 of course!).
This is a BYO event - bring your lunch, picnic chairs, rugs, GPS
devices and be prepared for a day of geocaching fun!

THE GEO-SCAVENGER
HUNT
For the geo-scavenger hunt, there will be ten location-based
tasks to perform in the vicinity of the event.
Details will be provided on the day, and it will be a race to
see who can complete the most within the allotted time. It is a
race, and a competition, but it should also be a lot of fun.
Points will be awarded for the completion of various tasks
around the domain, and the top ten teams will receive prizes.
You don't have to compete in the scavenger hunt, but we do have
a heap of prizes, and we have designed it so that hopefully it has
something for everyone. Bring your GPS along and make sure you've
got charged batteries!

GEO-BINGO
This is an idea we've borrowed from a very successful North
Shore event of 2009, but with a twist.
At the beginning of the event, each geocaching team will be
given a bingo card to complete during the event.
Each card will have ten boxes, each with a category written
inside. The object of the game is to fill out the card with the
names of geocaching teams present at the event that fit each stated
category.
Sounds easy, but here's the twist: Teams will score 1 point for
a correct answer, a bonus 2 points if they have only used the name
once on their bingo card and a further 5 bonus points if no one
else used the same answer for the same category.
The geocaching teams you can match to the categories on the
bingo card must be present at the event, so this is a great
opportunity to introduce yourselves to others and find a little bit
about each other.
Once again, we'll have a bunch of prizes for the winners and
runners up of this fun little competition.
PRIZES
1st Prize: A "Found It"
unactivated geocoin, a compass, a nano container, 3 chupa chups and
some licorice allsorts.
2nd Prize: A "Snowball Fight"
unactivated geocoin, a compass, a magnetic keyholder, 3 chupa chups
and some licorice allsorts.
3rd Prize: An unactivated
"Monkey" travel tag, a magnetic keyholder, 3 chupa chups and some
licorice allosrts.
GEO-QUIZ CACHE
Some time, during the event, a new puzzle cache will be
published somewhere nearby. In order to work out the coordinates
and find the cache, you'll need to know the answers to ten
multi-choice geocaching general knowledge questions.
When this cache is published, printed cache descriptions will be
given out to anyone who wishes to find it on the day. We're sure
there will be a couple who do...
IT'S A SOCIAL EVENT
TOO
Put names and faces to geocaching ids - meet the people behind
the names you've seen on log sheets. Share your war stories and get
tips and tricks from the old-hats. Most of all, have fun!
Kevsteam will also have their geocaching shop (geocachers.co.nz)
present and for a short period of time during the event they will
have a number of geocaching items for sale. They will have EFTPOS
facilities available. Kevsteam will also be providing some random
spot prizes for attendees to the event.
If you can't make it to our event in Auckland, maybe you can
attend one of the other events inspired by this one:
Ten Ten Ten Ten - Dunedin (Otago) in Dunedin by
Guwapo, or
10 10 10 10 10 10 TEN (Richmond@Nelson/Marlb.)
in Nelson by beltfamily.
See you there!
