Karsee Mummelsee



Der Mummelsee ist ein Karsee im Nördlichen Schwarzwald und liegt am Hang der Hornisgrinde. Er ist 3,7 Hektar groß und liegt auf 1.036 m ü. NN. Durch seine Lage an der Schwarzwaldhochstraße ist er sehr gut zu erreichen und zählt deshalb zu den meistbesuchten Seen in Baden-Württemberg. Wie der Huzenbacher See auch ist der Mummelsee ein Karsee. Der nahe gelegene, aber unzugängliche, verlandete Biberkessel ist ebenfalls ein ehemaliger Karsee.



Ein Kar entsteht dadurch, dass ein sehr kurzer Gletscher an einer Bergwand eine Grube aushobelt. Wenn das Kar wie eine Mulde geformt ist, kann sich bei entsprechende Schmelzwasser des Gletschers in den See. Das Umgebene Gestein hat eingelagerte Tonschichten. Diese verhindern das Versickern des Seewassers.

Entstehung eines Kar





Da es im Nordschwarzwald bei dem derzeitigen Klima nicht zur Vergletscherung und dadurch zur Karbildung kommt, muss der Mummelsee in der letzten Eiszeit entstanden sein. Insgesamt gibt es heute im Nordschwarzwald noch 17 wasserführende Karseen. Beim Mummelsee ist auch deutlich die für Karseen tpische steile Rückwand an der Hornisgrinde zu erkennen.

2. Bei N 48° 35.893 E 008° 12.150 findest du einen Gegenstand vor, der hier nicht hingehöhrt. Wie hoch ist er?


Karsee Mummelsee



The Mummelsee is a Karsee in the north of theBlackforest and ist at the mountain Hornisgrinde. It is 3,7 hectares big and is on 1.036 meters above see level. Because it lies at the Blackforest high street you can get there very easy and the lake is one of the most visited in Baden-Württemberg. The near Huzenbacher lake is also a Karsee, the near Biberkessel was a Karsee, but it became land in the last thousands of years.



A Kar originates so, that a very short glacier hollows out a hollow at a mountain side. If the Kar isn`t too flat, it can get a lake, if there gets water in. Normaly the water comes from the glacier in the lake. In the rock around there are loam layers, that don't allow the water to seep.

The origin of a Kar





Because in the north of the Blackforest in today`s temperature there don`t grow glaciers and you need them for a Kar, the Mummelsee had to be originated in the last ice age. Nowadays there are 17 Karlakes in the north of the Blackforest with water in them; the Mummelsee is the biggest. At the Mummelsee you can see the for Kar lakes typical precipitous backwall to the Hornisgrinde.
