Lenda da Fonte do Sapateiro
Há muitos anos, um certo sapateiro, que vivia nos Ginetes, teve que ir à cidade para resolver assuntos da sua vida, talvez comprar couro ou pagar alguma contribuição. Quando ia a sair de casa, a mulher, que sofria de doença dos intestinos, pediu-lhe que lhe trouxesse um medicamento recomendado pela vizinha, pessoa de muita sabedoria.
Lá foi o sapateiro, calcorreando os difíceis caminhos até à cidade, onde já chegou muito cansado. Entrou em diversas lojas, falou com conhecidos das freguesias vizinhas, soube algumas novas e finalmente pôs-se a caminho de casa. Andou alguns quilómetros, descansou de longe a longe e durante todo este tempo veio pensando na vida, no trabalho.
De repente, quando já estava perto de casa, veio-lhe à lembrança o remédio que a mulher lhe tinha pedido com tanto empenho. Ficou desorientado. Voltar outra vez à cidade parecia-lhe impossível, pois estava estafado da grande viagem que tinha feito a pé. Mas chegar a casa sem o remédio para a mulher, ainda se lhe afigurou mais difícil.
Quando estava nesta indecisão, passou por uma fonte, escondida entre abundante vegetação e uma ideia veio-lhe de repente. Encheu o garrafo na água que corria límpida da fonte e seguiu para casa, entre o aliviado e o preocupado. Ao chegar, e depois da habitual pergunta “Como te foi lá na cidade?”, o sapateiro entregou o garrafo com o suposto remédio.
Nos dias seguintes o garrafo foi-se esvaziando aos poucos porque a mulher cheia de confiança tomava as doses tal como a vizinha lhe tinha dito.
Pouco a pouco a mulher do sapateiro começou a sentir-se melhor e o marido, vendo-a saudável e feliz, ganhou coragem e contou-lhe a história do remédio.
Depressa a notícia de que a água daquela fonte era medicinal espalhou-se pela freguesia e muitos passaram a bebê-la, acreditando que ficariam curados dos males que os afligiam.
Lembrando este acontecimento, passaram a chamar àquela. nascente de água “Fonte do Sapateiro”. Actualmente, embora não seja tão procurada como nesses tempos, ainda há quem acredite no seu poder curativo e a fonte continua a matar a sede a quem passa naquele lugar isolado no meio da verdura e serve de bebedouro para as vacas.

Legend of the Shoemaker’s Fountain
Many years ago, there was a shoemaker who lived in Ginetes. One day he had to go to the city to solve some issues in his life, maybe by some leather or pay his taxes. When he was about to leave home, his wife asked him to bring her some medicine for the illness she suffered from.
And there he went on his way, walking the difficult trails which led to the city. When he finally arrived to the city, he was feeling very tired. He went inside several stores, spoke to everyone in order to get information about what had happened while he was away. After all this, he went on his way back home.
After walking a few miles he remembered what his wife had asked him to do. He forgot to buy her medicine, but going back to get it was impossible for he was so tired from the walking. But arriving home without the medicine was even worse.
Then he saw a fountain hidden between the vegetation and an idea came to his mind. He filled the small bottle with the water from the fountain and went home feeling relieved but also worried.
When he arrived home he gave his wife the bottle which contained the water as being the medicine.
During the following days his wife took the “medicine” and started to feel a lot better. The shoemaker then told his wife that the bottle only contained water from the fountain and soon word spread that the water from that fountain was heeling the sick. After this event that fountain was considered sacred and was named “Shoemaker Fountain”. Nowadays, although the fountain is not as famous as it was, there are still people who believe in the healing powers of its waters.
