Nayabedde
Cave
This cave is unknown to most of people even lot of people pass
it every day. So you can ask a taxi driver how to get there but for
sure most of them don´t know the way. Our Cache has been long time
in this cave till Jimmyblue and Mr. Sikligar came to find
it.
We decided to keep the cache outside but nearby at a safer
place cause somebody had blocked the cave by lot of stones. Cause
of this the cave was full of water. It was a nice experience for
Jimmy to discover our cache.
Our cache is a big red box with
logbook, pen and trade items.
Nayabedde village lies some hundred meter north
from the cave. An old story sad this cave goes on to Ella but in
reality it stops after less than 25 m.
WARNING: The cave has been blocked by stones to
prevent visitors from accidents. Please do not enter the cave. This
will help to protect the animals like birds, bates and others
living in here.
Start from Haputale
You can start this tour either by bus (20 Rs.) or directly by
3-wheeler (700-900 Rs.) from Haputale. All 30 minutes there are
busses starting behind Risara Bakery and ending at the Dambatenne
tea factory (9.2 km).
Start from Dambatenne
There shall be one early bus around 7 AM from the tea factory to
the top. Otherwise you have to walk ( 45-60 min.) or take a
3-wheelers taxi (500 Rs.). Arrange yourself some waiting time. At 4
PM drives a bus from Bandaraeliya down to Dambatenne.
Hiking from Dambatenne Tea
Factory
Follow the road to Lipton Seat and take the steps in the left
corner of the zigzag road (shortcut). The first steps are starting
after the hospital/temple. Next shortcut is in the next bench of
the zigzag road. On top turn left to the SLBT antenna. The cave is
closely.
The cave
looks like a
tunnel in the side wall of the road. There is lot of wet and muddy
soil around here. Before entering first time people told us this
cave goes all the way to Ella. But we came to know that the cave
makes inside a right turn and ends after 25 m. There is some kind
of life flying and crawling around. The walls are full of spiders
and this little animals (photo).
Horse
Temple
After
all this there is an interesting hindu temple with a colorful horse
and rider. To find it you have to pass Nayabedde cave and turn
right after 600 m. Another 300 m takes you to the Nayabedde Horse
temple. Get behind the temple in the tea, if you like to see the
triangle of Adams Peak. Nearby is the Nayabedde school TV No. 2.
It´s the large ground down under the temple. The green grass
invites for a picnic. Watch down to the Dambatenne tea factory.
Lipton Seat is on your left, Samimale Rock temple right above the
factory. 130 m down south from the school ground is the entrance of
Nayabedde cave. The village of Nayabedde is nearby. Last change to
buy something for your next tour to Samimale and
Surungamuni.
One
of my children is worried about Jimmy-Blue. He is a hungry beatle with blue
wings, white body and yellow dots. Jimmy likes to travel to one of
our next cache boxes. If somebody will help him?
Common needs: Walking stick,
bush knife, food parcel, 2-3 l water, tool knife with scissor and
saw, torch, all weather dress or umbrella, jersey, good shoes, long
shirts and trousers - cause of thorny bushes, bur and sharp
gras.
