Près de 100 000 soldats (environ 40 000 Alliés et 60 000 Allemands) sont morts en Normandie au cours des combats de l’été 1944.
Une partie d’entre eux (essentiellement des Américains) a été rapatriée dans le pays d’origine. Mais la très grande majorité ont été inhumés en terre normande, dans 26 cimetières :
- 16 britanniques,
- 2 canadiens,
- 2 américains,
- 1 polonais,
- 1 français,
- 4 allemands (sans compter celui de Saint-André-de-l’Eure, situé en Haute-Normandie).

Le cimetière britannique de Fontenay-le-Pesnel - The British cemetery of Fontenay-le-Pesnel
Le cimetière de Fontenay-le-Pesnel comprend 520 tombes ; celles de 457 soldats britanniques, de 4 Canadiens, mais aussi de 59 Allemands.
Il s’agit pour l’essentiel d’hommes tombés lors de l’offensive EPSOM (ou bataille de l’Odon) lancée à la fin du mois de juin 1944 dans le cadre de la tentative de débordement de Caen par l’Ouest.
The cemetery of Fontenay-le-Pesnel includes 520 graves; those of 457 British soldiers, 4 Canadians, but also 59 Germans.
It is a question for the main part of men fallen during the offensive EPSOM (or battle of Odon) thrown to the end of June 1944 within the framework of the attempt of overflowing of Caen by the West.

Selon le principe (A=1 ;B=2 ;C=3 …) calculez la somme des lettres des 2 mots écrits en lettres d’or au pied de la croix en pierre.
According to the principle (A=1; B=2; C=3) calculate the sum of the letters of 2 words written in gilt lettering at feet of the stone cross.

Prenez la direction du WP2 (N 49° 09.679 W 000° 33.645) à l’opposé du Monument vers le cimetière.

Question 3:
Une fois sur place cherchez les quatre tombes de soldats canadiens et notez leur age au jour de leur mort.
(seul deux sur quatre sont connus)
