Geocache Description:

This is one of a series of internationally placed caches to honour renowned mountaineer Conrad Kain.

About this Cache Area...

Born in Nasswald, Austria in 1883, Conrad Kain guided classic summits in the Alps and Corsica before immigrating to Canada in 1909. Over the next quarter century, he amassed an impressive record of first ascents and new routes in Canada’s Columbia and Rocky Mountains and New Zealand’s Alps. Due to the difficulty of these climbs and his unique approach to guiding, which included an appreciation of the natural world that he shared with his clients, he has served as an inspiration for both professional guides and mountain connoisseurs.

Erected in the village where Conrad and his wife Henriquita (Hetta) lived, this monument symbolizes the cairns he built on summits all over the world, and is made from rocks collected on some of them.

The posted coordinates point to the cairn erected by the Conrad Kain Centennial Society. On the sides of the cairn are placed the four plaques which will supply the answers so that you can determine the location of the close-by cache container.

A: Year that Conrad immigrated to Canada 190A
B: Date that Conrad was an Austrian Professional Guide Oct 10, 190B
C: Year Conrad climbed Mt. Robson 191C
D: Number of first ascents in New Zealand D9
E: Number of first ascents in Canada E0
