Eine Kirche wurde in Feistritz schon vor 1182 als "capella S. Martini" erwähnt. Diese Kirche stand vermutlich unten im Dorf, wurde bei einem Hochwasser beschädigt und dann oben auf dem Felsen neu aufgebaut.
Der heutige Kirchenbau ist eine stattliche spätgotische Anlage, wohl aus der 1. Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts. Der mächtige Eingangsturm, einst Wehrturm, wurde nach einem Brand im Jahr 1885 im oberen Teil erneuert.
Vom Friedhof aus kann man einen schönen Rundblick in das untere Gailtal genießen.
Da der Cache etwas südlich der Kirche liegt muss man die Felsen hinunterklettern. Geübte Cacher werden aber einen bequemeren Weg finden.
