Von Oberbach aus führt ein schöner Weg durch den Wald hierher.
Am großen Auersberg in der Nähe von Wildflecken und Oberbach wurde über 100 Jahre lang Bergbau betrieben und Schwerspat, (auch unter der Bezeichnung Baryt bekannt), unter Tage abgebaut.
Die chemische Bezeichnung von Schwerspat (Baryt) ist Bariumsulfat (BaSO4). Es ist ein sehr häufig vorkommendes Mineral. Dabei handelt es sich um ein wasserfreies Sulfat ohne fremde Anionen. Es bildet meist tafelige oder prismatische Kristalle von weißer Farbe. Baryt hat eine hohe Dichte von 4,5g/ccm
Kurz nach der Schließung der Grube im Oktober 1970 wurden alle Stollen und Lüftungsschächte gesprengt.
Am 29.10.2000 wurde ein Schaustollender Grube Marie eröffnet. Stollenbau unter Tage, Aufbau einer Schwerspatwand und Legung eines Schienenstrangs mit Kipplore sollen dem Besucher zeigen, wie in der Rhön Bergbau betrieben wurde. Am Auersberg ist der Schwerspat weiß gefärbt und grobblättrig bis feinkristallin. Neben dem Stollen-Eingang liegt ein besonders großer Schwerspatblock.

At the mountain Großer Auersberg near the villages Wildflecken and Oberbach a mine of barite worked about 100 years.
Barite (baryte) is a mineral consisting of barium sulfate (BaSO4).
The baryte group consists of baryte, celestine, anglesite and anhydrite.
Baryte itself is generally white or colorless, and is the main source of barium.
Baryte and celestine form a solid solution (BaSO4).
Shortly after the mine in October 1970 was closed tunnels and air supplys were all blasted.
On 29/10/2000 an exhibition gallery of the mine was opened.
Tunneling underground, a wall of barite and a rail track with lorry show the visitors how the mining in the Rhön worked. The barite of the großer Auersberg is white and fine crystalline. Near the tunnel entrance is a big rock of barite placed.
