Geocache Description:

Dambis Liepajas ezera
Maksligi no metalurga izdežiem un šlakas veidota izstiepta pussala/laipa. Padomju laikos bija iecerets izveidot dambi, kas sadalitu Liepajas ezeru, tadejadi pasargajot no piesarnojuma, ko nes metalurga notekudeni. Izaicini sevi aiziet lidz mola galam.

Liepaja Lake Dam
Artificially from the metal factory „Metalurgs” dross formed a peninsula stretching / plank. During Soviet times, was intended to create a dam, which should divide Liepaja Lake, thus preventing contamination by sewage of Metalurgs. Obviously, because of historical changes and nature activists’ objections, this work is not finished. Now it is peculiar walking place similar to breakwater, where all around is lake water with dwelling birds, mostly swans. Only have to consider that before reaching the footbridge have to cross Horse Island (so called "shit island"), which formerly served as a horse cemetery, but in recent times, the waste dump. But all around the island is pretty overgrown, only somewhere are visible evidences of this fact.
Here you can see the view of Liepaja industrial facade which gives a special romantic to these places. The best time to visit – in between the seasons, autumn or spring. Then the feeling is appropriate, and there is bigger chance to encounter swans. Challenge yourself to go all the way to the end of breakwater.
