Short English version:
Skien Station, also known as Skien New Station, is located on Nylende about 2 km north of the center of Skien in Telemark. It is the terminus for the Vestfold Line, and served also by the Bratsberg line. It was opened as the Bratsberg Line was opened in 1917, and was intended to replace Skien Old Station, located on the pier. Protests led to that Skien Old Station again became the terminus for the Vestfold Line in 1927.
In 1963 Skien Old Station finally closed, and Skien N was again the new station. It has repeatedly been raised proposals about building a new station in the mountains near the bus terminal in the city center, but no concrete plans have been submitted.
