St Martins of Tours - Epsom
The Church of St Martins of Tours is on Church Road in Epsom. It is believed to have been founded in Saxon times, and has since been rebuilt and extended several times. It is in fact not one building, but two, with the bell tower being medieval (15th century), and being attached to a 19th century classical Georgian church, which originally had 3 galleries and seated 1000 people.
In the early 20th century, there was the possibility of Epsom becoming a cathedral town, and in anticipation a completely new building was constructed, being completed in 1907-1909. The east end of the Georgian church was demolished linking the two buildings.
Unfortunately, after the first world war, Guildford was selected for the site for the new cathedral, and as a result, St Martins remains incomplete.
The cache isn't located at the above co-ordinates, however the clue is - but you will find that you cannot enter the actual cemetery, which should help. You need to find William Sanders and solve the following formula N51 (A-B-G).(D-B)(G+F)(E+F) W000 C(H-C).H(B+C)(E-B), where
- Day William passed away = A
- Month William passed away = B
- Year William passed away = CDEF
- How old he was when he passed= GH
The cache is about 200m away. You will need to use stealth, like most of the other Epsom caches, due to the areas close by where people may see you from
If any body would like to expand to this series please let Sadexploration know first so that he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
