L'
église Saint-Nicolas-et-Sainte-Alexandra
est la première église
russe-orthodoxe construite en France. La colonie russe de la
Riviera était habituée depuis une dizaine d'années à la Côte
d'Azur, où l'aristocratie européenne avait lancé la mode de
l'hivernage. Certains y venaient aussi se soigner de la tuberculose
qui faisait alors des ravages. L'impératrice Alexandra Féodorovna,
l'épouse du défunt Nicolas Ier, aimait à y séjourner pour s'y
reposer depuis son veuvage. Elle fit lever des fonds en 1856 pour
la construction d'une église servant de paroisse. Elle fut
consacrée le 31 décembre 1859 en présence de la comtesse
Stroganoff. Rapidement, l'église devint trop petite pour la colonie
russe qui ne cessait de grandir. Au début du XXe siècle, on fit
construire à Nice une seconde église, la cathédrale Saint-Nicolas à
l'endroit où en 1865, le tsarévitch Nicolas Alexandrovitch, fils
d'Alexandre II, s'était éteint à l'âge de vingt ans des suites
d'une méningite. Une cache très recommandable de Petit Poucet

The Saint-Nicolas and
Saint-Alexandra
church
is the first Russian
Orthodox church built in France. The Russian colony on the Riviera
was already used to come to the Riviera for ten years where the
European aristocracy had launched the fashion of hibernating during
the cold season. Some also came to be treated
for tuberculosis. The Empress
Alexandra Feodorovna, wife of the late Nicolas I liked to relax
here since her widowhood. She raised money in 1856 for the
construction of a church serving a parish. It was dedicated
December 31, 1859 in the presence of the Countess Stroganoff. Soon
the church became too small for the Russian colony, which continued
to grow. In the early twentieth century, a second church was built
in Nice , the Cathedral of St Nicolas at the location where in
1865, the Tsarevich Nicolas Alexandrovitch, son of Alexander II,
had died at the age of twenty years as a result of meningitis. A
highly recommendable cache by Petit Poucet GC16FZ6 is located near
the cathedral.
