Geocache Description:

This is our first Mystery cache and has been designed as a nice easy one to start with. It revolves around an area that provides employment for quite a few local cachers so it may be easier for some than others.

The FAA (Fleet Air Arm) came into being at HMAS Albatross near Nowra in 1948. Initially operating Sea Furies and Fireflies the FAA expanded to include a variety of fixed wing aircraft. The first helicopters were introduced in 1953 when the Bristol Sycamore bought into service followed by the Westland Wessex.

There has been over 20 different variety's of aircraft operated out of HMAS Albatross over the years. The last fixed wing aircraft were retired in 1983 and HMAS Albatross has become the domain of the helicopter ever since.

The cache is in an easy to get too area that is relatively open (hence the micro) and provides a great view of proceedings. Come at the right time of day and there may even be several of the aircraft below available for your viewing pleasure.
