Zojo-ji Daimon
Zojo-ji Temple was moved to turf in the present place enhancing the Edo castle by Ieyasu Tokugawa in 1598 (1598).
It is thought that Kan'ei-ji Temple is distributed to the demon's gate of Edo it and the field feng shui academically, and Zojo-ji Temple was moved to the suppression of turf in the back demon's gate.
Moreover, it was a family temple of the Tokugawa family, the spindle tree woods (study place and training place) was put, and it became the first on the list of Kanto 18 spindle tree woods.
"Grand gate" (holding [mo]) used for the station name of this near name of a town (turf grand gate) and the subway (grand gate station) seems to indicate a total gate of Zojo-ji Temple. A present total gate is the one of the concrete make made in 1937.

増上寺大門
増上寺は、江戸城の拡張に伴い、慶長3年（1598年）、徳川家康によって現在地の芝へ移されました。
風水学的に寛永寺を江戸の鬼門である上野に配し、裏鬼門の芝の抑えに増上寺を移したものと考えられます。
また、徳川家の菩提寺であるとともに、檀林（学問所及び養成所）がおかれ、関東十八檀林の筆頭となりました。
この付近の町名（芝大門）や地下鉄の駅名（大門駅）に使われている「大門」（だいもん）は、増上寺の総門のことを指すそうです。現在の総門は昭和12年に作られたコンクリート造のものです。
