From the eastern end of Deer Trap Mesa, look towards Puerto Nambe east across the Espanola vally. The County Line Cache is in line of sight between where you are standing and Puerto Nambe (bearing 88 degrees). Hands are required in a couple of spots when following the trail as it drops off the end of Deer Trap Mesa. The cache is located just past the county line which separates Los Alamos and Santa Fe counties.
This cache is the first in a series of seven we call the Pajarito Plateau Mesa Top Caches.
In the cache we left:
- A feather from one of our peacocks.
- Birdhouse
- Some Seashells
- Sentimental music CD (never opened, thankfully)
- Louis L'Amour book on tape
- Pig in a trough
- Stuffed toy
- Geode
- Dog chew toy
On 11/9 Zoom reported that he had been unable to find the cache when he went looking for it on 11/4, and that his gps indicated it was over the edge of the mesa. It is not; the cache is on the mesa top. On 11/10 I went out & verified that in fact, the original cooridinates were off by about 90 feet (sorry about that, Zoom). The correct coordinates are now listed.
