This is the re-creation of a puzzle theme inspired by
Ae0al. He has a number of puzzle caches
throughout Anoka County.
Let's take a little tour around our Solar
System.
Eris and it's moon, Dysnomia. The bright star in the upper left is
the Sun.
There is one star and eight planets. The
former planet Pluto, has been downgraded to the status of a dwarf
planet and is now regarded as an object of the Kuiper Belt. The
Kuiper Belt is an area extending from the orbit of Neptune to about
55 AU from the Sun and is made up of small bodies, or remnants from
the Solar System's formation. We will keep Pluto in the puzzle,
because most of us have learned about it in school and it's name is
still cooler than the formal designation of 134340.
The planets (and 2nd largest dwarf planet) in alphabetical order
are:
Earth
Jupiter
Mars
Mercury
Neptune
Pluto
Saturn
Uranus
Venus
You will need to put the planets in order of increasing distance
from the Sun. The information for that is found in many books and
of course on the Internet.
Complete the listing below to solve for latitude and
longitude.
___Sun______= 0
____________= 1
____________= 2
____________= 3
____________= 4
____________= 5
____________= 6
____________= 7
____________= 8
____________= 9
You will find the cache hidden at:
North: Mars Jupiterº Mercury Mars.
(Uranus - Earth) Earth (Jupiter - Mars)
West: Sun Pluto Earthº Mercury
(Saturn + Earth). (Pluto - Saturn) Neptune (Venus + Venus)
Additional random info: AU: An astronomical unit is a
unit of length equal to about 92,955,807 miles or the mean distance
between the Earth and the Sun over one Earth orbit. Pluto
orbits from 30 to 49 Au from the Sun. Eris (136199) is
currently 96.7 Au from the Sun and is the largest known dwarf
planet in the Solar System, being slightly bigger than Pluto. As of
Feb 2010, Voyager 1 is 112 Au from the Sun, the furthest of
any man-made object and travels the distance of 3.5 Au a year. A
light year is 63,241 Au.
