Geocache Description:

Church Micro 1045 - Tile Kiln Church

This cache is a 35mm film canister with a completed McDonalds coffee voucher for the FTF.

(Whilst suitable for everyone wheelchair user may require assistance to recover cache)

In June 1972 Tile Kiln Church opened on Robin Way in Chelmsford. It is an independent evangelical church. For over 50 years prior to 1972 the church had met in Orchard Street in the centre of Chelmsford. The decision to move to the new Tile Kiln Estate was made in order to be part of a new community. The Church is a modern build and as such does not resemble the more traditional churches found on other caches!

Whilst this is a Church Micro the cache itself can be accessed from a public right of way but is overlooked as the Church is in the middle of an estate and the cache may be difficult to retrieve without being seen so a good sense of timing may be required.

The Church has activities happening everyday and most evenings, so there are always people in and around the building. Also the church itself is located in the middle of an estate close to a school and so is busy during the morning and afternoon school runs.

Tile Kiln Estate

Tile Kiln is a popular family orientated area of Chelmsford. Biult on the old site of Tile Kiln Farm. Historically, the clays were dug for local brick and tile making and used to build houses in the village, many of which still remain, e.g. Brick House in The Street, Galleywood. Consisting of mainly houses (not many flats) it is seen as a sought after place to live in Chelmsford. Just minutes from the town centre and with great transport links to the A12 this is seen as many as a great place to live. It has a few local shops, schools, churches, and is a non council estate. While a mix of people live on this estate, there are relatively few pensioners and more families with children.
