Chief Seattle (Treasures of Scouting) Boy Scouts Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Rock Rabbit: This cache has several well-intentioned people wanting to ensure its care, but it's primary problems are placement and permission issues which cannot be resolved by multiple caregivers that are not in good communication with each other. I am archiving this cache until these issues are resolved. If the cache is relocated to a place that meets the geocaching.com guidelines and is approved by the camp director, I will be happy to unarchive it. Thank you for your understanding.

Geocache Description:

For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth become more than they ever thought possible. And we'll continue that journey in the next century.

Boy Scouts

The Boy Scout program in the US began in 1910 and currently is open to boys ages 11-18. Boys learn and grow through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects, and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability, and teamwork. It’s also a lot of fun! The skills learned in Scouting help young men overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their lives. Geocaching offers a new opportunity for the Boy Scouts to experience the outdoors while honing their Scouting skills. This cache is placed in honor of all young people in hopes that they will also take this opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. Please leave appropriate "swag" for young people of all programs.

This cache is placed in Camp Parsons. Camp Parsons is a resident Boy Scout camp operated and maintained by the Chief Seattle Council of the Boy Scouts of America. It is named after Reginald Hascall Parsons, a Seattle financier and philanthropist, who helped bring scouting to Seattle, served as the first Council President and who led the campaign that raised the money to purchase the land on which camp is based. Although it operates predominantly throughout the summer, the camp is in operation year round, with the winter months reserved for weekend camping and training sessions as well as our world famous monthly work parties. Camp Parsons is one of the oldest Boy Scout camps in operation in the United States today. It is the OLDEST operating camp west of the Missisippi and one of the few camps that uses an open water saltwater base for all scouting aquatic activities. Since July 7th, 1919 Camp Parsons has never ceased operation nor moved from its original site. Situated in the Olympic Peninsula on the shores of the Hood Canal, this camp has an excellent location and facility to continue the grand experiment that Lord Baden-Powell (who was our guest in 1926) began over 100 years ago. Please take a look at Camp Parsons website to get a better idea of its past.

In addition to this cache, we have hidden four other caches that highlight the "Treasures of Scouting" and twelve "Cache to Eagle" caches that highlight projects within the 12 districts of the Chief Seattle Council. Visit the Chief Seattle Council - 100th Anniversary Geocaching website for more details and list of the other Cache to Eagle cache locations.
