Mannerheiminaukio on kaupungin vanha kauppatori ja tällä paikalla käytiin torikauppaa aina vuoteen 1936. Nykyinen nimi Mannerheiminaukio otettiin käyttöön
vuonna 1942.
Aukion laidalla sijaitsee Carl Ludvig Engelin suunnittelema ja laivanvarustaja, kauppa-neuvos Anders Donnerin rakennuttama
empiretyylin raatihuone vuodelta 1842. Raatihuoneella on aikojen kuluessa toiminut kaupunginvankila, tullikamari, raastuvanoikeus ja kämnerinoikeus. Siellä kokoontuivat kaupungin maistraatti ja raati sekä järjestettiin porvariston juhlatilaisuuksia.
Raatihuonetta vastapäätä oleva rakennus on toinen kaupunkiin rakennettu kivitalo. Kauppias, laivanvarustaja Anders Roos
rakennutti sen vuonna 1810 asuintaloksi perheelleen. Vuonna 1853 talon yläkertaan avattiin kaupungin ensimmäinen pysyvä
sairaala, Libeckin sairaala.
Keskellä aukiota on Vapaudenpatsas (Johan Münsterhjelm 1920).
Mannerheiminaukio is the Old Market Square of the city and in this there was always public market until 1936.
An Empire-style City Hall designed by Ludvig Engel and built by the famous shipowner and Commercial Councelor Anders Donner is situated on one side of the square.
It was built year 1842.
City Hall square has during the times been the town jail, Customs Office and a Court building.
There, gathered the city magistrate and
panel of the bourgeoisie and festivities were organized in this beautiful building.
The opposite building to the town hall is the second stone building in the town.
Merchant, shipowner Anders Roos
had it built in 1810, as residence for his family.
In 1853 the second floor of this house became the first permanent hospital of Kokkola,Libeck's hospital
In the middle of the square is the Statue of Liberty. (Johan Münsterhjelm 1920).
