There’s
nothing special about this cache. It's exactly like dozens
of Rick Rich hides in the West Metro. That's not a bad thing!
We all love a quick park, short walk and an easy find of a
small container hidden in woods. My theory is this cache is
typical of the average cache found worldwide. But is it the
Millionth Cache in the world? And what does that mean to be the
Millionth cache?
Well if you've
been paying attention to the cache counter on the home page
of GC.Com we are only days (hours?) away from the point
where they will list 1,000,000 Geocaches Worldwide. Maybe this is the cache
that will push the total to 7 figures???!!!!
Of course the
millionth cache published has already happened a long time ago. But
then hundreds of thousands of caches got archived over the years,
so it has always been three steps forward and one step
back. We have been inching our way to the day when there would be
1,000,000 ACTIVE caches in the world and that day could be TODAY?!
This cache could be that CACHE ... well at least for about 30
seconds … Then one more person will archive their cache
and another 3 people will publish theirs.
One thing seems
certain, once we hit 1,000,000 ACTIVE caches we will never look
back. Sometime last year Minnesota hit a milestone for 10,000
active caches, but if you look today you will see there are over
13,000. I know there are lots of cachers out there that can
remember when there were only a few thousand caches in Minnesota.
Some can remember when there were only a few
hundred.
For better or
worse we will soon be living in the world with ONE MILLION
caches!
