Noerdlich von Kempenich bildet die Loesch´s Nueck genannte Huegelgruppe den Erosionsrest eines alkalibasaltischen Tuffringes.
Es ist noch ein Halbkreis vorhanden, indem die Tuffschichtung nach außen, gegen Osten einfaellt. Der Westteil ist erodiert, hier liegt das Tal des von Spessart und Hannebach herabkommenden Baches. Diese auch heute sumpfige Talung muß zur Ablagerungszeit der Pyroklastika ein See gewesen sein, der wahrscheinlich durch den damals das Tal blockierenden Phonolithruecken des Engelner Kopfes, der bis Kempenich hinabreicht, aufgestaut wurde.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen, beantworte folgende Fragen:
1. Nenne die Hoehe der hoechsten Stelle dieser Huegelgruppe "Loesch´s Nueck.
2. Erklaere etwas ausfuehrlicher "Palagonit" (z.B. Farbe, wie ist es entstanden. Nicht wissen wollen wir den Ort, nachdem es benannt ist.)
3. Mache ein Bild von dir, einem persönlichen Gegenstand oder deinem GPS am "Tuffring".
Seit dem 10. Juni 2019 kann wieder ein Logfoto als Besuchsbeweis gefordert werden, jedoch nicht als Ersatz für eine auf den geologischen Ort zugeschnittenen Aufgabe. Letztere ist immer zwingend erforderlich.
Sende Deine Antworten zu 1) und 2) an Team gorgaz. Schreibe sie bitte nicht ins Log! Du musst keine Logerlaubnis abwarten, sondern darfst sofort loggen. Das wird in den neuen Richtlinien zur Logfreigabe bei Earthcaches klargestellt. Sollten die Antworten nicht richtig sein, melden wir uns, und dann arbeiten wir gemeinsam daran.
North of the city Kempenich a group of hills called "Lösch's Nück" is to be seen. It is derived from the erosion rest of an alcali-balsaltic tuff ring.
There is also a semi-circle in which the tuff stratification dips towards the east. The western portion is eroded. This is were the valley of the brook coming down from the towns of "Spessart" and "Hannebach" are located. At the time of the deposition of the pyroclasitics, this - still today swampy - valley must have been a lake, which probably resulted from the back of a phonolith the "Engelner Kopf" blocking the valley, up to Kempenich.
If the still hot volcanic ashes were falling into the water, the basaltic glass absorbed water and changed to a lighter glass substance that is known as palagonite. By the re-formation of zeolites and carbonates, the single glass pellets were cemented. That's why palagonite tuffs are relatively firm and much prefered as bricks. Palagonite with its high ability to ionize can also be used for the production of water filters. In the palagonite tuff of Kempenich several deserted quarries can be found. Hence the filter factory Loesch is situated with a quarry at the southern end of the tuff ring.
To log this earth-cache, please answer the following questions:
1. Give the height of the highest point of the group of hills "Lösch's Nück".
2. Explain: what is a "palagonite"? For example: color, how it arose. We do not want to know the place is named after.
3. Please take a picture of yourself in front of the "tuff ring". Upload photos you appear on or a personal item.
