Im Jahre 1820 wurden beim Abbau von Braunkohle die Bad Lausicker Heilwässer entdeckt. Bereits ein Jahr später begann der Kurbetrieb. Die Stadt entwickelte sich nun zu einem beliebten Kurort und konnte sich schließlich im Jahre 1913 Bad nennen.
Eine Erkundungsbohrung nach einem weiteren Heilwasser sollte im Jahr 1998 den Kurbetrieb für die Zukunft absichern. Aus einer Tiefe von über 1.300 Metern wird heute das Bad Lausicker Thermalwasser gepumpt und für die Bad Lausicker Gäste zur Trinkkur und in Kürze auch zur Badekur zur Verfügung gestellt.
Das Bad Lausicker Thermalwasser wird an der tiefsten Stelle des Brunnens mit 34°C abgepumpt und tritt mit etwas über 20°C aus dem Brunnen aus. Es stammt aus einer sogenannten Akratotherme, die sich durch ihren geringen Mineralstoffanteil auszeichnet. Aufgrund dieser Charakteristik ist die Badekur die Hauptindikation und die Trinkkur die Nebenindikation dieses Wassers.
Die Bohrung gibt interessante Auskünfte über die geologischen Verhältnisse von Bad Lausick. Bis in 400 Metern Tiefe ist vulkanisches Gestein aus Lava mit einer rötlich braunen Färbung vorhanden, wie es in dieser Region überall angetroffen wird.
Der technische Aufwand der Bohrung war relativ hoch. Der Durchmesser des Bohrloches wurde in mehreren Schritten von 50 cm auf 21 cm verringert. Die Wasserzuflüsse in der Tiefenbohrung erfolgen dort, wo Spalten und Klüfte auftreten, da nur an diesen Stellen Wasser vorhanden sein kann.
Etwa 20.000 Liter Thermalwasser kann der Brunnen am Tag fördern.
Im Foyer des Kur- und Freizeitbades RIFF steht der neue Trinkbrunnen für das Bad Lausicker Heilwasser.
Um diesen Earthcache zu loggen, müsst Ihr folgende Aufgaben erledigen:
1. Besucht den Trinkbrunnen an den oben angegebenen Koordinaten (Achtung Öffnungszeiten beachten).
2. Kostet das Heilwasser (Einen Becher kann man für 5Cent an der Kasse erwerben.)
3. Bewertet den Geschmack der Heilquelle im Vergleich zu "normalem" Mineralwasser.
4. Vergleicht die Temperatur der Quelle mit Eurer Körpertemperatur. Was stellt Ihr fest?
5. Macht ein Foto um euren Besuch vor Ort nachzuweisen.
6. Wieviel Eisen und Kieselsäure sind pro mg/l enthalten (Hinweistafel am Brunnen)

In 1820 the Bad Lausick medicinal waters were discovered during digging of brown coal.
A year later, the spa business started.
The city developed into a popular resort and in 1913, the sobriquet Bad was conferred.
An exploration well for another healing waters in 1998 should secure the spa for the future.
Today, the thermal water is is pumped up from a depth of 1,300 meters for drinking and swimming regimen.
At the deepest point of the spring the thermal water has a temperature of 34 ° C and comes out
of the spring with a little over 20 ° C.
It comes from a so-called Akratotherme, which is characterized by its low mineral content.
Due to this characteristic the swimming regimen is main indication of this water.
Drinking regimen is the secondary to indications.
The bore hole provides interesting information about the geology of Bad Lausick.
Down to 400 meters deep volcanic rock from lava is available with a reddish brown color,
as it is found everywhere in this region.
The technical complexity of the bore was relatively high. The diameter of the hole has been reduced in
several steps from 50 cm to 21 cm.
The water flow outs occur in the deep where are cracks and crevices, due to water is only available there.
About 20,000 liters of thermal water can be delivered per day.
In the lobby of the spa and leisure pool RIFF you can find the the new drinking fountain.
To log this earth cache you must fulfill the following tasks:
1. Visit the drink fountain at the upper coordinates (Watch the opening hours).
2. Taste the medical water. (Due to hygienic reasons please bring your own cup / chalice with you.)
3. Rate the taste of the medical spring and compare it to "common" mineral water.
4. Compare the temperature of the spring with your body temperature. What can you determine?
5. Take a photo as an evidence of your visit.
6. How much iron and silica are per mg / l (Note plaque am the fountain)
7. Mail us the answers and logs the cache. Over a photo of you on the spot I would be happy! We will contact you if something is not right.
Only the correct answers together with the picture are a valid log authorization.
