A camouflaged 2 quart (approx.) container hidden in California Hill State Forest.
In 2007 three different protected areas were merged into a single unit, the California Hill State Forest. We've wondered for a while what is out here and finally had the opportunity to explore and place some caches. Much of the area shows signs of human intrusion, yet the forest has some beautiful topography and large areas that are unspoiled or at least not recently spoiled.
There are no marked trails in the state forest but there are a number of woods roads/trails that show evidence of prior heavy use. While these do not generally run straight, we found that it was not difficult to find a combination of roads/trails that would take us in the direction we wanted to go.
This cache is located a short distance from a power line that runs through the forest and is hidden in the (unambiguous) location clearly indicated by the name of the cache. The container is a relatively large "recycled" former dog treat container roughly 2 quarts in size. It has room for lots of swag though its dimensions are somewhat smaller than those of an ammo can. The find should be straight-forward though you will need to be able to squeeze into a bit of a tight spot to reach the cache, We have not marked it as snow friendly, but it is in a well-protected location that should be accessible even in moderate snow cover. Please leave the cache with the top up as the lid may not be completely water-tight.
The state forest is heavily used during hunting season . We recommend that you do not attempt to find this cache during deer hunting season.
