Geocache Description:

A small camouflaged clip container with a log book & pencil and room for small trackables and trades.

K&TR

Tolleshunt D'arcy was one of the numerous halts on the Kelvedon & Tollesbury Light Railway. The line was part of the Great Eastern Railway, absorbed by the London & North Eastern Railway and latterly British Railways before closure in 1953.

The line was affectionately known as the Crab & Winkle line and despite having a rail connection at the Kelvedon end it was operated independantly with it's own low level platform there, separate tickets and even a locomotive that had been modified to allow it to negotiate the sharp curves at the Tollesbury end of the line.

Today there are few signs on the line remaining although the route of the line is fairly clear here, and if you look closely you can see evidence of the original lineside fencing, possibly even a post from a level crossing gate. The industrial buildings across the road stand on the site of the station.

Please take care if you have young children with you on this cache as it is quite close to the road.
