Há inquietação na floresta
Há problemas com as árvores
Pois os bordos querem mais luz do sol
E os carvalhos ignoram os seus pedidos
O problema com os bordos
(e eles estão completamente convencidos que estão certos)
Eles dizem que os carvalhos são muito altos
E capturam toda a luz
Mas os carvalhos não podem evitar a sua altura
Eles gostam da maneira como são feitos
E perguntam o porque dos bordos
Não poderem ser felizes nas suas sombras
Há um problema na floresta
Todas as criaturas fugiram da floresta
Enquanto os bordos gritam "opressão"
Os carvalhos apenas mexem as suas cabeças
Então os bordos formaram um sindicato
E exigiram direitos iguais
" Os carvalhos são muito gananciosos,
Nós os faremos dar-nos luz"
Agora não há opressão dos carvalhos
Pois aprovaram uma lei nobre
E as árvores são mantidas todas iguais
Por manchadinhos, machados e serrotes

For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas.

They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

And the creatures all have fled,
As the maples scream `Oppression
And the oaks,just shake their heads
So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"The oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe, and saw.
