This “multi” involves a walk of about 3 miles around Stanwick Lakes, it being the second in the Park n Cache series.
Up until 1980 the area around the Stanwick site was mainly used for farmland and pasture. In 1980 archaeological excavations in and around the Lakes site revealed early prehistoric ceremonial complexes. In 1985 quarrying and mineral extraction began at the northern end of the site. These initial areas were restored to lakes and meadows. Quarrying ceased in 2004 and the site is now owned by Northamptonshire Council and managed by Rockingham Forest Trust.
Stanwick Lakes lies in the heart of the Nene Valley in Northamptonshire and offers something for everyone.
