Introduction
The LGC series consists of 12 caches distributed between Anglesea
(North-East) and Apollo Bay (South-West). They should be approached
in numerical order, heading from Anglesea towards Apollo Bay. This
direction provides the best views and the most parking
opportunities. All caches are on the ocean side of the road and are
affixed to the guardrail magnetically. They have been placed at
popular "photo spots", so if you are travelling this road there is
every likelihood that you would park in these places anyway.
Rather than repeat the information on the various information
boards located at many of the sites, I'll let you enjoy that
pleasure on your travels. There are a number of attractive,
sculpted information panels mounted on rock that give information
about the building of the GOR. There are also other information
boards with maps, and information on both the natural environment
and the escaped colonial convict, William Buckley. I have not put a
cache at every one of these, so make sure to keep an eye out!

You will note that every cache has a "Dangerous Area" icon. This is
not just because the guardrails are close to a busy road (and hence
not suitable for children). This narrow, curvaceous road is very
popular with fast motorcycle riders, and in addition there
are limited opportunities for U-turns. A deadly combination! If you
miss a cache (or are coming from the other direction) do not risk
the your life - or the life of your companions - with a sudden,
dangerous manouver (e.g. stop-and-reverse) or unsafe park. In some
cases there will be another parking area a little further on and
you might be able to walk back, but play it safe. If you really
want the cache, find a safe turning place, retrace your track -
beyond the cache - and then find another safe turning place. This
may involve several extra kilometres of driving in many cases, but
"better safe than dead", and this is no joke.
The Cache:
Another "high point" of the GOR, this time seventy five metres
above sea level. This is the location that inspired this series -
spectacular!
The cache you seek is a 200 ml Sistema with a logbook, small pen
and a photographic quote. The caches are uniquely camouflaged so
that you can carry them without attracting attention. The important
thing will be retrieving and returning the cache in these
high-muggle areas without being noticed. The future of the caches
depends on you! While you're being super-stealthy, please make sure
you replace the cache exactly as you found it (i.e. not too
visible).
