Le château de Labastide Paumès, aussi appelé Château d’Orbessan, selon le nom de ses premiers propriétaires, date du XVIe siècle.
L’origine de la bastide de Labastide-Paumès demeure inconnue. Peut être est-elle établie par un Orbessan quand cette famille a remplacé les seigneurs de Pomès (déjà signalés en 1180).
Le Château des Orbessan fut reconstruit pendant la Renaissance.
En 1598, Jean d’Orbessan fut chargé de mission par les châtelains de L’Isle en Dodon auprès du chef de bande Pangeas qui, à la tête de deux mille arquebusiers, écumaient le pays de Serrère. Il obtint leur départ moyennant une forte rançon.
Les Orbessan quittèrent Labastide en 1638.
En 1789, c’était la famille parlementaire de Cambon qui détenait la seigneurie. Ils émigrèrent durant la Révolution, mais revenue en France, Madame Cambon fut arrêtée et guillotinée le 8 thermidor de l’an II, la veille de l’exécution de Robespierre.
Ce château, en cours de restauration, appartient maintenant à trois propriétaires d’outre-Manche.

The château of Labastide Paumès, also known as the château of Orbessan, - the name of its original owners -, dates from the sixteenth century.
The origin of the bastide of Labastide-Paumès remains unknown. It may have been established by an Orbessan when the family replaced Lords Pomès (already reported in 1180).
The château d'Orbessan was rebuilt during the Renaissance.
In 1598, John d'Orbessan was given a mission by the owners of L'Isle en Dodon; he had to treat with Pangea, a gang leader who , at the head of two thousand musketeers, roamed the Serreres country . He won their departure by paying a large ransom.
The Orbessans left Labastide in 1638.
In 1789, the Cambons held the manor. They emigrated during the Revolution, but as she had returned to France, Ms. Cambon was arrested and guillotined on 8 Thermidor Year II, the eve of the execution of Robespierre.
This château is being restored and now belongs to three owners from across the Channel.
