Matsuo Basho left (1689)Saicha-an (dice and bean jam) for the travel of "The Narrow Road to the Deep North" on March 27, in 1689. 奥の細道の先駆け（採茶庵跡）
かの松尾芭蕉は、元禄２年３月２７日(１６８９）採茶庵（さいとあん）から「奥の細道」の旅に出発しました。正確には、仙台堀（仙台藩の蔵屋敷があったことから仙台堀と呼ばれ、現在の仙台堀川のこと）に浮かぶ船に乗り、隅田川をさかのぼって千住まで行った。「奥の細道」の出発は船旅だったのです。
採茶庵は、芭蕉の門人、杉山杉風（さんぷう）の別宅でした。芭蕉は「奥の細道」の旅に出る前に、それまで住んでいた隅田川と小名木川の合流地点の岸辺にあった芭蕉庵を手放し、門人、杉山杉風の別宅に厄介になります。採荼庵に芭蕉を住まわせた杉風は、日本橋で幕府御用の魚問屋を営み、豊かな経済力で芭蕉の生活を支えていたのです。
採茶庵の横にある仙台堀川。芭蕉はこの堀から旅立ったのである。
