Geocache Description:

About Side Tracked... We have Motorway Mayhem. But what about public transport users ? SideTracked caches are intended to provide quick Cache and Dashes at Train Stations

Tattenham Corner Station

The Tattenham Corner Line was opened in two parts: from Purley to Tadworth as the Chipstead Valley Railway in 1893, and to Tattenham Corner as the Epsom Downs Extension Railway in 1894.The Tattenham Corner Line is now part of the southern franchise.

The line is primarily a commuter route, but the station at Tattenham Corner was built to serve the Epsom Downs race course with large numbers of extra trains on Derby day

Of Note is the incident which occurred early on the morning of 1 December, 1993 and under the influence of alcohol, the driver of a train from London Victoria made it all the way to Tattenham Corner station, near Epsom racecourse, without mishap. However, he forgot to stop at the terminus and took the train through the buffers, across the station concourse and into a temporary wooden station building which had previously managed to survive intact for 92 years. No one was hurt, but the station was completely demolished, and it was due to this accident that the current drugs and alcohol policy for railways was introduced

Cache is located approximately half a mile from the station building due to proximity to other caches. You are looking for a 35mm film cannister. Cache contains logbook only. Please bring your own pen/pencil.
